Yesterday evening, we strung popcorn and cranberries and decorated our little Christmas tree. We have quite a collection of bird ornaments, and as we hung them by candlelight (dark at 5pm!) I was reminded of Oliver Herford’s little poem, I Heard a Bird Sing –
I heard a bird sing In the dark of December A magical thing And sweet to remember.
‘We are nearer to Spring Than we were in September,’ I heard a bird sing In the dark of December.
Hope and Light to you on these dark winter nights.

I love this sweet bird, and the poem is great! I’ll share it with my little one… We just got a book from the library today about backyard birds in winter, so we can learn who is coming to our feeder.
