We had a beautiful, fluffy snowfall Christmas Eve morning.  My friend Joanne suggested we make some Snow Ice Cream.  So, the girls and I collected a huge bowl of clean, fresh snow, and set to it!

Snow Ice Cream

You will need:

1 gallon fresh, fluffy snow, give or take.

2 cups whole milk or 1 cup whole milk + 1 cup eggnog (or for vegans, 2 cups hazelnut or almond milk would be tasty, don’t you think?)

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

1 scant cup granulated sugar

In a very large bowl, combine the milk, sugar and vanilla.

Add in handfuls of snow until the mixture comes together.

Keep stirring, it takes a while!

Firecracker declares it, “Martha Stewart good!”

Enjoy!

  1. Yummy fun! I tried to talk JumbleSon in to making some, but he wouldn’t hear of it…doesn’t like the “cold snow” ;-)

I’d love to try this, but it somehow seems less appealing living in NYC. Any tips on enhancing the color of gray snow?

  7. I can’t wait to try this – now if it would only SNOW instead of ice!!!

  8. Miri says:

Oh wow, this brings back memories! sadly it doesn’t ever snow where we live now, but i might just have to make my mum send me some snow!

What a great idea! I have never heard of this before. But I’ve only lived in a snowy area for a couple years now. I’ll have to ask my friends if they’ve tried it. I’m not sure we’ve got any clean snow right now, but after the next snow fall I am totally doing this with my kids. They are going to love it!

This brings back great memories – sadly it doesn’t snow much in Texas!

Perhaps our next vacation up “north” will give us a chance to try this out.

So much fun! We got another foot of snow over the weekend – will have to collect up a gallon and make some yummy ice cream!

We have been doing this since I was a kid in Kentucky (I live in Illinois for about 24 years now)> Anyway, I was concerned about the quality of snow up here i the north (we rarely saw an airplane where I grew up at). So, I set boundaries, not the first snow, unless it was really deep, so as to clear the air of a lot of pollutants. We scrape of the top layer and ‘go for the gold……I mean snow.’ Jo

We made this all the time when I was a kid! We loved it. My mom made it with maple extract…mmm so good!
